Our expanded surgery services include a new surgical suite and observation room and two padded anesthesia induction/recovery stalls. Each case is handled by the surgical team, including the chief surgeon, surgical assistant and technical support staff.
We offer a broad range of surgical services and utilize the most current surgical and postoperative care techniques to best protect your horses' health. In addition to offering the full range of elective soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, our team stands ready 24/7 to help in emergency situations. Please call 406-285-0123 to reach us during emergencies, any time of day or night. During regular business hours, we are also available for questions and consultations at 406-285-0123.
Our state-of-the-art surgical suite has all the same tools and equipment as any large veterinary teaching hospital, and is fully prepared to handle all types of elective and emergency surgery. Our surgeons can view our digital radiographs right there in the surgical suite to guide treatment during orthopedic surgery. We even have an attached viewing area, so clients can watch the entire procedure anytime they want.
All surgeries at Montana Equine are performed under advanced anesthetic care by a doctor or certified veterinary techinician to minimize risk and maximize successful outcomes. In addition to supporting ventilation and blood pressure while under general anesthesia, surgery patients are carefully monitored to minimize risk. Blood-gas analysis is routinely performed during anesthesia, helping our team to best monitor your horses' metabolism, and therefore improving patient recoveries.
Our surgery team has extensive experience with minimally invasive surgeries such as arthroscopy and laparoscopy, and we perform many of these procedures every year. We utilize state-of-the-art radio-frequency ablation to remove abnormal tissue very precisely, with a minimum of tissue trauma. Other minimally-invasive surgeries, such as standing laparoscopic ovariectomy, are also routinely performed by our team.
Colic surgeries, once considered a death sentence, now have dramatically-improved rates of success due to advances in surgical technique, anesthesia, and after-care. Our team actually performs many colic surgeries every year, and our success rates are actually better than those reported in teaching hospital research reports.
Following all types of surgeries requiring general anesthesia, each horse is assisted by at least two people during the recovery process. And beyond the standard supported-recovery from general anesthesia, a sling apparatus is also available to assist recovery during orthopedic and other severe cases.
